Daegu Sangwongo defeats Hwasun Go to advance to the quarterfinals

Daegu Sangwon High School defeated 스포츠토토 Hwasun High School with great firepower to reach the quarterfinals of the 78th Cheongnyonggi National High School Baseball Championship and Weekend League Wangjoong Wangjeon (co-hosted by Chosun Ilbo, Sports Chosun, and the Korea Baseball Softball Association).

Sangwongo defeated Hwasungo 11-1 (5 innings cold game) in the round of 16 at Mokdong Baseball Stadium in Seoul on Tuesday. The game was a one-sided affair. Sangwongo took the lead in the first inning when Yeo Dong-wook (sophomore) singled and Kim Yoon-seo (junior) doubled to make it 2-0. In the bottom of the second inning, Yeo added an RBI double to make it 4-0.

Sangwongo allowed Hwasungo to cut the deficit to one run in the top of the third inning, but scored six runs in the bottom of the inning to pull away. Three walks, a two-RBI double by sophomore Park Hyun-seung and a sacrifice fly by Yeo Dong-wook made it 10-1. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on first and third, Do Gun Park (junior) grounded out to shortstop, allowing the runner from third to come home to complete the 10-run fifth inning.

Sangwongo will play the quarterfinals against Gyeonggi Sangsang University at 10 a.m. on May 22. Coach Kim Seung-kwan said, “Gyeonggi Sang Sang is a well-organized team with strong hitting. We will prepare well and fight,” he said. “We lost in the quarterfinals of the Golden Lion in May, and we will definitely do better in the Cheongryonggi to make up for the disappointment.”
