‘Disgraced Cy Young Award winner’ Bauer earns second-team nod…return to first team soon

‘Bad boy’ Trevor Bauer is back in the first team. Can he redeem himself this time?
Bauer, a former major leaguer who joined the Yokohama DeNA Baseball Stars, was demoted to the second team after two consecutive poor outings in his debut. After pitching seven innings of one-run baseball in his NPB debut against the Hiroshima Toyo Kappa on March 3, the former Major League Baseball pitcher followed that up with shocking performances in his next two games, allowing seven runs (six earned) in three innings and seven runs in two innings, respectively.
Bauer’s collapse in his second start after a strong first game led to speculation in the Japanese media that his throwing habits had been exposed. In the end, Yokohama decided to remove Bauer from the first-team roster and start him in second-team games in order to readjust.
Bauer started the game against Lotte’s second team on April 21 and threw 97 pitches over six innings, allowing one run on eight hits with 10 strikeouts. He gave up a leadoff home run in the first inning, but retired the next three batters he faced without allowing a run. His fastball was up to 95 mph.
Bauer, who had struggled with a high fastball in his last start before being demoted, said, “I was conscious of throwing it as low as possible in my second start. “My first two pitches weren’t good, but in the third I was confident,” he said.
With a passing grade again in his second start, Bauer will soon be called up to the first team. “I hope he can make good adjustments for his next start,” Yokohama manager Daisuke Miura told local Japanese media. Barring any setbacks, Bauer is expected to return to the first team and start against the Junichi Dragons on April 26. 안전놀이터
