The SSG Landers returned to the top of the standings for the first time in nine days. The Lotte Giants swept the ‘Big Pitcher’, while the LG Twins dropped to second place with a sweep.
LG lost its regular-season home game against the NC Dinos of the 2023 KBO League 2-9 at Jamsil Stadium. This brings their season record to 32 wins, 1 draw, and 18 losses (0.640 winning percentage) and drops them to second place, losing the lead they had held since the 20th of last month to SSG.
From LG’s perspective, the loss would have been even more disappointing as NC’s homegrown ace Koo Chang-mo faced just one batter in 0.1 innings before being replaced due to forearm pain. The LG offense was unable to capitalize on NC’s second pitcher, Choi Sung-young, who was rushed to the mound.
Choi Sung-young, on the other hand, earned the win with six innings of five-hit ball, one walk, four strikeouts, and two earned runs. While it was unfortunate that he gave up a run after being hit by a pitch in the seventh inning, it was an efficient outing that held LG to just 78 pitches for six innings.
It was also painful for LG to see their trusted bullpen collapse. LG took the lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Austin, but starter Kim Yoon-sik gave up a two-run homer to Son Ah-seob in the top of the fifth. In the top of the seventh, reliever Kim Jin-sung gave up a solo home run to Ahn Jung-yeol, and LG scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Oh Ji-hwan. The score was 2-3.
However, in the eighth inning, substitute pitcher Jung Woo-young gave up a hit-by-pitch, a stolen base, and a walk, followed by a single to Kim Joo-won and a double to Ahn Joong-yeol, and quickly scored three runs. The score quickly grew to 8-2 when Lee Woo-chan, the new pitcher, was hit by a wild pitch and a single. LG scored one more run in the top of the ninth inning when Choi Dong-hwan gave up back-to-back singles, followed by an error.
NC’s Son As-seob, who started at the top of the order, hit a grand slam in the fifth inning, while Ahn Jung-yeol went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the seventh. In an unfortunate turn of events, closer Lee Yong-chan was removed from the first team roster and native ace Koo Chang-mo was suddenly sent down after facing just one batter, but Choi Sung-young, Ryu Jin-wook, Lim Jung-ho and Song Myung-ki combined to pitch 8.2 innings of two-run ball to secure the win.
SSG secured its second straight win with a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 home victory over the Kiwoom Heroes at SSG Landers Field in Incheon, Korea, thanks to a walk-off RBI single by Kim Sung-hyun. With the win, SSG returned to first place with a season record of 31 wins, 1 draw and 17 losses (0.646 winning percentage). It was their first return to the top spot in nine days since last month’s 24th.
After allowing Kiwoom to score one run each in the third and fifth innings, the team turned the game around. In the seventh inning, Choi Jung-jeong hit a solo home run (his 11th of the season) to pull within one run. In the bottom of the ninth, Choi tied the game with a walk, an error, a double steal and a wild pitch. With runners on first and second, Kim Sung-hyun hit an RBI single to complete the thrilling comeback.
Lotte rode an explosive batting lineup to a 14-2 victory over the KIA Tigers at Sajik Stadium in Busan. It was a stunning performance that completely demolished Kia starter Yang Hyun-jong. In the top of the first inning, Lotte scored seven runs from the top of the order, including a grand slam by Lee Hak-joo in his KBO debut. 메이저사이트
With the momentum in their favor, Lotte scored runs throughout the game, including two in the second, one in the fourth, three in the sixth, and one in the seventh to completely demolish the KIA mound. In their second complete game shutout of the season, the LOTTE bats were especially strong, with all eight batters in the lineup recording multi-hit games, with the exception of Jung-hoon.
Lee Hak-joo had the best day with a grand slam and multiple hits, followed by Jeon Jun-woo with three hits, three runs scored and one RBI, Han Dong-hee with three hits, two runs scored and two RBI, Kim Min-seok with two hits, two runs scored and three RBI, and Lee Jung-geun with two hits and one RBI.
LOTTE starter Dan Straily picked up his third win of the season (4-3) with solid batting support, throwing seven innings of eight-hit ball on 118 pitches with one walk and eight strikeouts. Yang Hyun-jong, on the other hand, had a nightmare of a day, allowing nine runs on nine hits (one home run) and two walks in two innings.
