‘Murder rampage, baseball stadium?’ KBO wraps up Daegu game safely amid tight security

Vigilance has been strengthened in preparation for the possibility that a recent shooting rampage in a downtown area could also occur at a professional baseball stadium.

KBO sent an official letter to each club on the 4th, requesting thorough preparation for crime and strengthening overall stadium safety management, such as strengthening security checks when entering spectators, deploying additional safety personnel, and strengthening cooperation with related organizations such as police and fire departments. This is a measure in response to the recent occurrence of heinous crimes targeting an unspecified number of people at Sillim Station in Seoul and Seohyeon Station in Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province.

Accordingly, before the game on the 5th, each club strengthened measures for the safety of spectators, such as deploying their own security personnel. At Daegu Stadium, where the report was received, additional police personnel from the Suseong Police Station, the jurisdictional police station, were deployed along with the Samsung club’s own security manpower increase.

First of all, the game went ahead as scheduled, as no unusual incidents related to the crime were found. KBO said, “With the cooperation of the Samsung club and the police, the game ended normally without an accident, and the audience safely exited under the protection of security personnel.”
