Ohtani from WBC “The goal is to win… Korea, there are many great players”

Shohei Ohtani (29, Los Angeles Angels), who joined the Japanese baseball team, showed his wariness toward Korea.

According to Chunichi Sports, Japan baseball team coach Hideki Kuriyama held a press conference on the 6th and first announced 12 of the WBC final entries (30).

First of all, the list of 12 players released includes major leaguers such as Ohtani, who is active as a pitcher, Yu Darvish (San Diego Padres), and Seiya Suzuki (Chicago Cubs).

Ohtani attended the press conference on behalf of the players. Ohtani, who appeared wearing a national team uniform with the number 16 on it, expressed his aspirations, saying, “Since I started baseball, I have never aimed for anything other than first place. I want to aim for the championship and only think about winning.”

It is the first time in 8 years since the 2015 Premier12 that Ohtani has appeared on the international stage with the Japanese national team. He missed the 2017 WBC due to an ankle injury.

Japan is in Group B with South Korea, Australia, Czech Republic and China. Korea is the toughest opponent for Japan.

When asked about Korea, Ohtani cautioned, “There are many great players. In Asia as well as globally, there are many outstanding players both as batters and pitchers.” He then added, “I don’t know what kind of players will come out, but it’s a country where any generation comes out with players who can fight in the world. He plays great baseball.”

The WBC kicks off on March 8. Korea and Japan will play 토토 the ‘Fateful Korea-Japan Match’ at the Tokyo Dome in Japan on March 10th.
