Magnus Kim participated in the 2023 Winter World University Games (Universiade), which closed in Lake Placid, New York, USA on the 22nd, and won three silver medals in the ski cross-country men’s 10km individual classic and 30km relay.
Magnus Kim appeared at the Universiade under the Norwegian name of Magnus Bø. Born to a Norwegian father and a Korean mother, Beau was born in Busan in 1998, and since 2015 has been running around the snowfields wearing the Taegeuk mark under the name Magnus Kim.
He showed unrivaled skills in Korea, winning three gold medals at the 2013 Winter Sports Festival and four gold medals at the Winter Sports Festival in 2014 and 2015. He won a gold medal at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, and a gold medal at the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo.
Before Magnus won the gold medal at the Asian Winter Games, the best result in the Korean men’s cross-country skiing at the Asian Winter Games was a bronze medal. Also, the gold medal at the Youth Olympics was the first in Korean skiing history.
At the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, he came in 45th out of 119 in the men’s 15km free event. He also placed 19th in the sprint category at the FIS World Cup in March of that year.
He decided to go on the international stage as a Norwegian player from the 2018-2019 season. He said at a press conference at the time, “It was an inevitable decision to further develop as a player,” and “I feel sorry for those who have helped me in the meantime.”
Under the name of Magnus Bø instead of Magnus Kim, he served as the flag bearer for the Norwegian team at the opening ceremony of the Winter Universiade, and it seems that he is gradually establishing himself as a recognized player in Norway, a ski powerhouse, by winning three silver medals.
