The name that appeared again…”Pochettino got off to a worse start than Tuchel”

Mauricio Pochettino is struggling to get things going at Chelsea.

“Pochettino has had a worse start than Thomas Tuchel,” the London-based Evening Standard reported on Monday (Aug. 18). The Blues were held to a 0-0 draw by Bournemouth in their previous match.

Chelsea hasn’t gotten off to a great start this season either. With one win, two draws, and two losses in their first five league games, the Blues have fallen to 14th place in the league with five points.

Aside from Liverpool, their opponents have been ones they should have beaten. Draws with Liverpool and Bournemouth and losses to West Ham United and Nottingham Forest are inexcusable. The lone win came against Luton Town, who have been promoted this season and are considered the weakest team in the division.

It’s an even more unsettling start than Tuchel’s last season. After two wins, one draw, and two losses in the league, Tuchel was sacked after losing to Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

More than a billion euros of investment had gone to waste. Chelsea have spent €1.073 billion ($1.518 trillion) in three transfer windows under Todd Boleyn, but only a handful of players, such as Enzo Fernandez, have shown promise, and the €100 million ($141.4 billion) signing of Michail Antonio Conte still needs to adapt and develop.

The current injury crisis is no excuse for Chelsea either. There’s no denying that the Blues are missing their best players in each position, including Wesley Fofana, Leicester James, and Christopher Nkunkwo, but that doesn’t mean their resources aren’t good enough to compete in the English Premier League (EPL).

Pochettino’s tactics are also a problem. Instead of the back four that worked so well in the preseason, Pochettino has adopted more of a three-back. The intention was to utilize Levi Colwill’s versatility and use the left wing-back aggressively, but it didn’t work.바카라

The bigger problem was in the midfield. The loss of Kani Chukwuemeka to injury forced Fernandez up front. Without Fernandes, who was the only player in the midfield who could provide more than one minute of service, the spine was missing.

There could be a reversal. Pochettino didn’t get off to a great start at Tottenham Hotspur either. His first nine league games were less than satisfactory, with three wins, two draws, and four losses. It wasn’t until the 10th game, a come-from-behind win over Aston Villa, that Spurs slowly picked up their game, and a golden era began.
